"One Night Stand" と同じ，デジパック仕様。
このアルバムは，既に LP で２枚，CD でも２枚持っていたので，これで５枚目。しかも，"The Man Who Invented Soul (4 CDs)" にも，まるまる収録されているわけだから，・・・(^_^;)

リマスターされているとは言っても，"One Night Stand" ほどの差はないし，Peter Guralnick の新しいライナーもどうせまもなく発売される伝記本の内容と重複するだろうし・・・(^_^;)

値段は確かに安くなっているので，初めてコレを買う若い連中がうらやましい・・・(^_^;)

どうやら，１９９５年の編集盤 "The Rhythm and The Blues" は，まだ RCA に販売権が残っているようなので，そちらのほうをリマスターしてくれたほうが，うれしかった。

それにしても "Twistin' the Night Away" のアルバムは，いったいいつになったら再発されるのか・・・(^_^;)

ジャケットの BEST と SAM COOKE という赤い文字が，ちょっとまぶしい。
まさかアナログ盤のように再プレスからこの文字が黒くなるというようなことはないだろうが・・・(^_^;)

今回リイシューされた３枚のうち，デジパックではなく一般的なプラスティックのケースに入っているのはコレだけ。ケースの上に，さらに紙のカバーが付いている。
リマスターされて音は良くなっているし，13.～15. がボーナストラックとして追加され，ライナーも充実している。

しかし，既に Abkco から発売されているベスト盤の "Portrait of a Legend 1951-1964 (Hybrid) [SACD]" で，追加された曲も含めて全て聴くことができるし，音も，通常のプレイヤーで聴く限りでは，遜色があるとは思えない。

ただ，値段は確実に安くなっているので，その意味では買いやすくなっていることは確か。

それにしても，今までの CD に収録されていた "Summertime [Alternate Version]" が収録曲からはずされてしまったのは，いったいなぜ？
この CD だけ Abkco の広告が印刷されたカードが入っていないけれども，Abkco と SONY BMG の関係はやっぱりまだ良好とはいえないんだろうか？

１９８７年に RCA から出されたベスト盤 CD。
ABKCO との権利関係のゴタゴタからいつの間にか廃盤になり，中古市場でかなり高値で取引されていたが，"Portrait of a Legend" が発売されてからは，手ごろな値段で買えるようになっているはず。
* 印の６曲が "Portrait ～" には収録されなかった曲。

LP ２枚組のアナログ盤も２千円前後で出回っているので，オススメ。
"Portrait ～" の，ロダンの「考える人」を連想させるような苦悩する姿とは異なり，正面を向きにこやかに微笑む Sam Cooke の大きなジャケット写真を眺めながら，彼の歌声を聴くのも，また乙なもの・・・。
