Johnny Vincent の米Ace が '70 年代にリリースしたシングルと，当時のセッション(Previously Unreleased/Unissued) で録音された楽曲を集めた編集盤。

"A Southern Soul Story" 収録の Disc III: 21. Take One Step (I'll Take Two) - Chet Davenport　が初めて公表されたのが，この CD。

いかにもシングル・コレクターの方々が気に入りそうなディープなソウル・バラードだが，シングル盤では聴けない曲の一つ・・・のはず。
プロデュースしたのは，Fame Gang の一員だった Harrison Calloway。Earl Gaines のためのデモ曲として録音されたのだそうだ。"A Southern Soul Story" のライナーによると，この曲はそのままの形ではリリースされていないが the same backing track を利用して Carl Marshall というシンガーが "I Can't Live Without You" というタイトルで Double Hit というレーベルからシングルを出しているらしい。残念ながら，その曲は公式には CD 化されていないようだ。

この CD のブックレットには，original tape box for Chet Davenport session や当時の手書きメモの写真が掲載されている。そのメモを書いたのは，legendary R&B DJ/Producer であった'Hoss' Allen。テープの箱に印刷されているスタジオ名は，Widget recording studio。つい最近発掘されて CD 化された ↓ にもそのスタジオで録音された曲が収録されていた。

Lattimore Brown の最後のシングルを検索していて発見した CD なのだが，そのお目当ての Lattimore Brown の２曲(II-3. 4.) は衰えの目立つ今ひとつの内容だったけれども，Earl Gaines の Sound Stage 7 時代とは別バージョンの "Nine Pound Steel" (I-23.)という大きな収穫があった。
Chet Davenport 同様この CD で初めて公表された Bobby Hall というシンガーの２曲(II-5. 6.) も，かなりディープ。Bobby Jay というシンガーによる "Dark End Of The Street"(II-19.) もそれほど悪くない。

"A Southern Soul Story" でトリをつとめた Geater Davis の５曲(I-13. 14. II-11. 12. 13.) は，↓ にも収録されていた。

↑ は，廃盤になっているようだが，この CD と ↓ で，そのほとんどを聴くことができる。
