　作者としてクレジットされている Joe Primose という人物は，著作権の登録者というだけで実際に作詞・作曲をしたわけではない。１８世紀にイギリスで歌われていた 'The Unfortunate Rake' という伝承歌にまで遡れるそうだ。

　１９６７年８月の Fame 録音。Spooner Oldham の キーボードのフレーズが，Aretha Franklin "I Never Loved A Man The Way I Love You"(1967年１月録音) のリフと似通っているように聴こえるが・・・？

　１９６８年リリースのシングル(Kent 481)。そのフリップ・サイドは Sam Cooke "Nothing Can Change This Love" のカバー。
with Maxwell Davis Orchestra ということだが，このブルージーなギターを弾いているのは・・・？

　１９６８年１０月の Fame 録音。中途半端なアレンジがもう一つ・・・というのが個人的な印象。

● Little Milton　"Welcome To The Club: The Essential Chess Recordings (Disc 2) Color My Blues Bright" [Chess/Universal　MVCE-30022]
　１９６８年１１月の録音で，Donny Hathaway (keyboards); Cash McCall (guitar); Phil Upchurch (bass); Al Duncun (drums) による演奏。"Grits Ain't Groceries" (1972) の収録曲。

● The Drifters　"Anthology 7 - I'll Take You Where The Music's Playing (+9)" [Sequel　RSACD 836]
　１９６９年にシングル [Atlantic 2624] としてリリースされている。リード・シンガーは Bill Fredericks，アレンジャーは Gary Sherman で，プロデュースしたのは Jerry Williams,Jr. つまり Swamp Dogg。

　１９６９年リリースの１st アルバムに収録されていた。ブルージーな Hi Sound 。

◎ Johnnie Taylor　"Live At The Summit Club" [stax　0888072862821]
　Wattstax の映画やサントラに一部収録されていたパフォーマンスの完全版。
１９７２年９月，ロスのクラブでのライブ。バックのバンドがグチャグチャなのは残念だが，Johnnie Taylor のボーカルの色っぽさには同性でもうっとりするくらいなので，現場にいた中年のオバちゃん連中はたまらなかっただろう・・・(^_^;)

◎ Albert Washington　"Sad And Lonely (+1)" [Westbound/ace　CDSEWM 142]
　１９７３年リリースの LP が CD 化される際にボーナス・トラックとして追加されたのが 'Steal Away'。
"Blues & Soul Man" というタイトルのアルバムもあるシンガーだが，この 'Steal Away' は，ほぼ完全にブルース。

◎ Robert Lockwood, Jr. & The Aces　"Blues Live! 2" [Vivid　VSCD-033]
　１９７４年１１月，来日公演のライブ録音。記念すべき「第１回ブルース・フェスティバル」。
演奏のフォーマットはブルースだが，Robert Lockwood, Jr. のボーカルにはソウルフルな色気を感じる。
以前は２枚のアルバムに分かれていたが，コンプリート版がリリースされている。

◎ Ted Taylor　"Sound City Soul Brothers: Ted Taylor / Reuben Bell / Eddie Giles" [Soulscape　SSCD 7005] -2007
　１９７５年リリースのシングル(Alarm 112)。プロデュースは Wardell Quezerque で，ヒット(R&B: 64) もしている。
このバージョンが，いちばん「サザン・ソウル」らしいかも・・・？

◎ Bobbie Gentry　"Greatest Hits" [CURB　D2-77387]
　録音データ不明。ソウルフルなカントリー・ポップ。

◎ Walter "Wolfman" Washington　"Out of the Dark" [Rounder　CD 2068]
　１９８８年リリースのアルバム。Rounder 時代の Johnny Adams の専属(?) ギタリスト。ファンキーな New Orleans Soul で，ピアノに Jon Cleary がゲスト参加している。

◎ The Persuasions　"A Cappella Dreams" [CHESKY　JD251]
　２００３年の録音。こういう内容の歌でもアカペラで歌われると，ゴスペルのように崇高な歌に聴こえてしまう・・・(^_^;)
